Outreach Ministries
Angel Tree
Angel Tree
Did you have a good Christmas? Were there gifts under your tree? Thanks to our parish's generous giving, many families in our community also had gifts to pen. Our Angel Tree has several hungry gift tags for over 100 local school-aged children for both needed clothing items and wished-for toys. Local charities such as the BCO, SOCKS, Holy Angels, and Parish referrals share names of children who might be without gifts or need clothing. Gathered items are sorted and then delivered in time for Christmas Eve. Thank you for being such a giving parish. If you would like to be part of this ministry next year, please contact Julie Manchester by email.
Coat Drive
Coat Drive
For a number of years, Queen of the Apostles has organized a coat drive. Coats, gently used or new, are accepted, sorted, and then donated to various agencies around the area. "We need to provide the same sense of warmth that we feel when we put on our winter coats to as many as possible." Each year around 200 coats are collected. Hats, mittens, and scarves are also needed. If you aren't wearing it, you are keeping it from someone who could use it! Check the bulletin in the fall for donation drop off information.
Feed the Needy
Feed the Needy
We are a blessed parish who has much to offer. This gift of sharing is evident the last weekend of each month when you see the large collection of donated items on the altar. Each month we support a different organization such as Belmont Community Organization, SOCKS, or the Community Relief Organization based on their needs. If you would like more information on this important outreach ministry, please contact Tricia Ryan at (704.648.7878) or email. Our Knights of Columbus Council graciously delivers the food to the designated agency each month.
First Monday
First Monday
"When I was hungry, you gave me food to eat" is the motto of our First Monday ministry. If you have a "bountiful table" each day and, in gratitude, would like to help prepare a meal for others, please come join this group that gathers on the first Monday of each month. They make meals for three shelters in the community. Lots of fun and laughter goes on in the kitchen from 1 to 4 pm. Contact Laura Liska (336.608.9630) or email for more information - or just show up on the first Monday of the month in the MAK Family Life Center and join in! Hope to see you there.
Food Baskets
Food Baskets
Christmas dinner can be a special time for families to gather, and yet, some families struggle with the tradition we might take for granted. With the generous donations of turkeys, hams, canned food, potatoes, sugar, flour, and baked goods, our parish has been able to assist families in the local community with boxes of foods. BI-LO is also a strong supporter in this endeavor. Names are provided by the BCO, SOCKS, and parishioners who are aware of families in need. Each year, over 100 boxes of food are given away. If you know of a family in need, or would like to help in other please, please contact Heather Hart by email.
Justice and Peace
Justice and Peace
"Preach the Gospel, if necessary, use words" is the justice and peace quote by St. Francis. Our own Justice and Peace committee tries to follow these words. Their goal is to spread the Gospel teachings while using the Catholic Social Teachings as their guide. The committee works to educate and involve the parish community through speakers, rallies, programs, updates, and information in the Queen's Herald, and other venues. Are you interested in being part of the Justice and Peace Committee? Please send all inquiries to Tricia Ryan at 704.648.7878 or email.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Looking for a ministry base don an outreach of compassion and love? Our Prayer Shawl ministry is exactly that! A group of over thirty women share their gift of crocheting and knitting God's love, care, and warmth into shawls for those in need of comfort in our parish. The group meets on the first Tuesday morning of each month from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Several times a year an evening group meets as well. Can't make the meeting time? That's ok! You can crochet or knit at home! Call Elizabeth O'Conner at 704.825.0799 or email for more information. This ladies also knit hats, scarves, and mittens for our coat drive and Christmas remembrances for our homebound.
Respect Life
Respect Life
We are all, each one of us, made in the image of God. This concept is what our Respect Life committee is all about. Following Cardinal Bernardin's 'seamless garment of life,' the committee's main goal is to pull everyone together in support of all human issues: war, euthanasia, suicide, abortion, capital punishment, and health. In the past, our parish has been involved in a Rosary for Life, Action Alerts in the bulletin, the Pro-Life Rallies, and the annual Life Chain in October. The committee is currently recruiting members as well as someone to chair the committee. Spend some time reflecting on the sacredness of life and call the parish office (704.825.9600) to volunteer. Every life is sacred from womb to tomb.
Weekend BackPack Food Program
Weekend BackPack Food Program
The Mission of the Weekend BackPack Food Program is to feed children in need during the weekend so they can come to school ready to learn on Monday. A plastic bag with enough food for three meals per day of non-perishable, individually portioned, nutritionally balanced food is taken home in the children's backpacks on the weekend when school meals are not available. To become part of this outreach ministry, please contact Julie Russo (704.824.0102) or email.
Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Each year, we provide Thanksgiving Day dinner for many in our community. When individuals are alone, sick, homebound, not able to cook, or perhaps financially burden, we are able to help and share thanksgiving by providing them with a turkey dinner. Many volunteers are needed to assist with this ministry. If you are interested in helping with our Thanksgiving Dinner ministry, please contact the church office at 704.825.9600.
